The Tale of a Feather

“The Tale of a Feather” is a short-story narrative illustrated through the medium of embroidery.”
The Illustration brief:
Pick any object that is of big importance to you.
Illustrate the 6 spaces between two points: 1. The object at it’s origin, 2. The object becoming important to you.”
Borduur Pauw
I decided to illusrate the story of how I received a peacock feather from my grandad on the day I moved to London. The peacock feather has great sentimental value to me because of the speech my granddad gave as he handed it to me, as well as the fact that I received it on my 18th birthday, signifying the moment of me becoming an adult and leaving my home, my friends and my family behind to start a new adventure by moving to a different country.
As the subject matter is a feather, but it’s really more about my grandparents, I thought embroidery would be a fitting medium as it is slightly old-fashioned and it conveys the feeling of nostalgia.
I drew and embroidered all 6 illustrations in 5 days time.
