This project was made during Lockdown and was created for #mentalhealthawarenessweek.
I drew up a digital mockup and made the Paper-craft dice from my studio, they were collected by bike, and @nick.dunne photographed them in his studio, whilst we communicated the styling each remotely from our individual studios. After lots and lots of messages back and forth (“up a bit, left a bit, down a bit.. no that’s too much now, back a bit...”) we managed to get the perfect shot. 🙏🏼*virtual high five.

It was strange to not be physically present on set, but really satisfying to see that we can still make projects from a distance through the help of good old technology.👍🏼

“Up in the Air” is a conceptual image representing the anxiety people currently experience in quarantine, and the questions about the future - both the positive (orange) and negative (blue) - this brings with it...🎲🧡💙

New Project: “Up in the Air”✂️
These are uncertain times.
Quarantine, social distancing and the fear of losing loved ones or your financial stability means that we are more stressed, desperate and anxious than ever. No wonder that so many people are struggling with Mental Health problems right now!
Though the weekly-clap for the NHS is moving, the bus stop posters of “Be kind to one another” are heart-warming, and the social media pictures of your friend’s lockdown achievements are inspiring… everything can feel a bit overwhelming right now. But guess what – that is fine!!
Kindness to one another in these uncertain times is of course very important… but we mustn’t forget to be kind to ourselves too.
Our mental health & wellbeing should be paramount, and so we should all allow ourselves to practice a bit more Self-care and to collectively take the pressure off a bit.
It’s ok to not know what the future holds. It’s OK to feel lost, uncertain, depressed, anxious or lonely right now. It's OK to not know where you’ll be in a year’s time, or a week, or even a day… It's OK! You know why? Because no one else knows either.
Everything is (literally) up in the air right now, and your guess as to how this all pans out, is as good as mine. The dice have been cast, and we won’t know how they’ll land until they do.... We just have to roll with it and take it day by day.”

My final 6 of ♦️ submission for the @playingarts project. 🏙😊✂️

The theme of “100 years into the future” seems to be even harder to imagine that usual, during these crazy uncertain times. I find it hard to even predict what I’ll have for lunch tomorrow, let alone what 2120 will look like. It seems impossible to fathom what will happen with technology, human development, the impact on nature etc etc… so my design focuses on the only solid thing I can be certain of right now: Architecture.
And more specifically: our homes… (which is where we’re spending most/all of our time now).

With an ever growing population, and humans living longer, I think cities will expand and we will take to the skies for housing, building clusters of high-rise residential flats as little islands of communities, creating cities that never sleep and a constant buzz of excitement and opportunity... The sky is literally the limit. 🏙💙🌃

I also researched the number 6 and it’s INSANE how many symbolic, mathematical and historic references are attached to that number, both in nature & the human world, and so I tried to include as many variations of the number surrounding the 6 towers on this hexagonal floating island. .

For years I’ve been admiring the beautiful cards for the @playingarts project.. and so I’m super exited to have been invited to participate with this year‘s special “Future” Edition! 👀 I got the 6 of♦️!
The theme of this year’s playing cards pack is “to design what our interpretation is of 100 years from now”... In this current crazy time it’s hard to even predict what I’ll have for lunch tomorrow, let alone what 2120 will look like.. I won’t go into detail because it’s too much to name, but the keen observer can spot diamonds, hexagons and the equation of 6 in multiple ways in this sketch. 😏

I made my first ever Vinyl cut Print!😊🖤
I’m not sure if this style has a name yet - but I’ll dub it “Speelgoed-Stijl”, because just like “Slaolie-Stijl” the Dutch always come up with the best names for Art Movements.😅

This is week 2 of a 5 week printmaking course I’m doing at the @camdenartscentre, and today we had a 2 hour Vinyl cutting session - that next week we will turn into a multi-colour print!
I’m experimenting with my ongoing “Wooden Toy Blocks” theme and am quite pleased with how this minimalist guy came out. This one was just a test print for 1 of the layers, so I’m really looking forward to adding a splash of colour next week and to physically build up the full image... (see what I did there?😉) I’m super excited as we’ll be mixing our own ink dyes and I’d love to experiment with some colour gradients!🔥
Having done Woodblock last week, it’s SO interesting to see how completely opposite ends / worlds apart that technique is from using a material like Vinyl cutting ... or paper cutting for that matter. 😉 But it’s always great to get out of your comfort zone and to keep making personal work! .
More next week - But for now, enjoy the visual of this bold yet minimalist black and white line-art one. 🖤😊
